Je m'appelle Brian-Michel.
(Just Brian, please.)
Thirty-five imperial years old.
Born in Houston, raised in Montréal and British Columbia.
Living in New Orleans, but travelling all over all of the time.
An alumnus of the Université de Montréal law school. (LL.B. 2003, LL.M. 2004)
And Tulane University. And Loyola University New Orleans.
My expertise is in Civil Law, Constitutional Law, and International Law.
My square job is working as a political, legal, and foreign policy advisor. Former journalist.
Really, though — I’m a photographer (editorial, fashion, pinup/adult, documentary), an award-winning filmmaker, and a writer. Sometimes, I paint.
My photographs have been seen in magazines, major publications, advertising campaigns, on the internet, on "certain parts" of the internet, and in other ways, including copyright infringement and plagiarism in university classes.
My film and television work has mostly been in Canada, France, Germany, and Switzerland. I'm a former executive producer, director, and writer for the popular and critically-acclaimed ARTV/Radio-Canada show Mange ta ville, winner of numerous awards in Canada. I've also produced short films and documentaries, winning a Gemini Award/Prix Gémeaux for a long-form documentary film on the subject of indie rock musicians recording sessions and discussing music, culture, and indigenous issues in all ten Canadian provinces and three territories. Recently I've been engaged by the National Film Board/Office national du film to remaster and re-release my first film on its tenth anniversary. STUDIOCANAL and Canal+ have also signed me to development deals and are currently airing two new French-language television shows, both of which I produced, wrote, and directed.
I’ve had several books published by major literary houses in Québec, Canada, France, and Switzerland. Currently out of print, I'm in the process of having them translated and published again in French — and also in English in the United States and Canada.
Also, I happen to be a poet, mostly to keep me humble and my inbox full of cruel rejections — like Tinder and Bumble and major depressive disorder.
I mainly use either traditional medium format cameras or digital 35mm and medium format cameras. All works of art are developed and printed by hand, in a traditional photographic darkroom, and in my studio just across the river from downtown New Orleans.
I have a background in journalism, however, I have written in English and French for VICE Québec, and have published two previous poetic works in French. I'm finishing my first poetic anthology in English, republishing my collective work originally published in the early 2000s by VICE Canada/VICE Quebec (in English), and working on a collection of postmodern Québécois short stories in French.
